Brides / Alli Waataja

Whether you’re heading to a bachelorette weekend, destination wedding, or honeymoon, it's important to keep your jewelry organized, tangle-free, and safe in transit. So, you'll need to have the right travel jewelry case to store your gems—ideally, something that separates pieces with built-in dividers or sections.

“Look for features like soft interior lining to protect against scratches, adjustable compartments for different types of jewelry, and a secure closure to keep everything in place,” say travel experts Robert Lora and Marta Pahino Estevez. “A compact design made with lightweight materials is also essential, as it will be easier to pack and transport your jewelry without taking up too much space in your luggage.”

To help you find the best jewelry case for your personal needs, style, and budget, we've researched and tested the best options available online. We compiled our final selection based on functionality, durability, style, security, and overall quality.

Read on for the best travel jewelry cases for your honeymoon, destination weddings, and beyond.

Kendra Scott

We love the removable pouch included in this structured travel case, which also features multiple compartments and ring slots to keep all your gems organized and tangle-free. Available in three soft pastel hues, it's made from vegan leather with a soft micro-suede lining that will prevent scratches and tarnish.

When we tested this Kendra Scott beauty for ourselves, we were able to fit two larger pairs of hoops as well as a large watch in the removable pouch—we loved the ease and convenience of this feature. In the main area of the case itself, we easily fit two necklaces, four bracelets, another pair of large hoops, four rings, and five pairs of smaller hoops and studs. It's a larger jewelry case, which makes it ideal for checked luggage on long trips. Overall, we found that this case was well worth the price tag, as it has great capacity, plenty of organizational features, and can even double as your at-home jewelry box.

Paravel

This snug and secure jewelry case is made from durable, spill-proof, and stain-repellent ecocraft canvas that once was eight upcycled plastic bottles. They offer two different unique personalization options: up to three hand-painted initials or a hand-painted emoji, both of which are available in several pretty colors.

When testing, we found that this case is super sturdy—pushing on it and even throwing it didn't leave any marks. The material was protective and the zipper was nice and smooth, making it easy to use. We especially loved the earring and ring bars that snap off so you can put things on easily, as well as the removable interior bag.

It also has a main compartment for chunkier accessories.

Based on the various small compartments and ease of use, we found that this case would be suitable for a suitcase, a weekender bag, or a travel tote. The zipper and the overall construction of this pouch felt substantial and sturdy. We especially loved the way you can easily attach rings and earrings.

At first glance, we thought there is no way this tiny jewelry case would be useful; it was barely bigger than the palm of our hand. However, we were able to fit nine rings on the removable ring strap, one bracelet, and two pairs of big hoops on one side. The other side was able to fit two pairs of big earrings and one pair of studs on the removable earrings strap, as well as three necklaces in the pouch. While this is small enough to fit in a purse, it would definitely come in handy for any trip.

When shopping for a travel jewelry case, you’ll want to identify a few key factors. Besides budget, size is usually the biggest concern. Size determines how much jewelry you can store and bring, which varies depending on your intended use. If you only plan to bring a select few pieces, you don’t need a giant case. It’ll just take up unnecessary space in your luggage. Instead take a compact case that will still keep your pieces protected like, Away Jewelry Box. However, if you want to keep all your jewelry in one case for convenience, you’ll want to opt for a larger capacity box, like Extra Large Leather Jewelery Box.

Jewelry cases come in several materials—the most popular being leather (or vegan leather), velvet, high-quality paper, and wood. Some people prefer a hard exterior to protect in case of falls or bangs. Others go for designs that they can roll up, like the Teamoy Jewelry Roll. The soft shape allows it to fit into more nooks and crannies in your suitcase. Be sure to look for soft, well-padded interior lining to ensure that your gems don’t get scratched or damaged. Suede, velvet, and microfiber are suitable.

Make sure the jewelry case has built-in mechanisms to prevent tanging, like separate compartments and dividers that keep each item in place. Think about what pieces you’ll be packing and let that guide you when choosing a box. Some cases are only for certain types of jewelry, like sadkew Velvet Ring Organizer while others can hold all types of jewelry, like KElofoN Travel Jewelry Case which has dividers like ring rolls, hooks for earrings, and compartments for bracelets.

A case with compartments is the best thing to use to keep jewelry safe and secure. If you don’t have a jewelry case on hand yet, Lora and Pacino Estevez suggest “using small plastic bags, pill organizers, or even repurposing a clean, empty egg carton to keep items separated and protected.”

If you have access to a hotel safe, locking your jewelry inside is your safest bet. If not, you can purchase a small lock for your luggage to keep it secure. Protecting your ring with insurance is another wise way to safeguard your investment.

If you don’t have a jewelry case to keep your necklaces protected, Lora and Pahino Estevez suggest “threading them through a drinking straw or wrapping them individually in tissue paper or plastic wrap.”

Even within your jewelry case, they recommend fastening the clasps of your necklaces and placing them in separate compartments within your jewelry organizer.
